Overview

Benztropine mesylate tablets are prescription oral tablets that contain 0.5 mg, 1 mg, or 2 mg of benztropine mesylate. The product also contains inactive ingredients such as corn starch, dicalcium phosphate anhydrous, hydrogenated vegetable oil, lactose anhydrous, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, and talc.

The label states that benztropine mesylate has anticholinergic and antihistaminic effects, and that its anticholinergic effect is the one considered therapeutically significant in parkinsonism. It is used as an adjunct in the therapy of all forms of parkinsonism and can also be used to help control extrapyramidal disorders caused by neuroleptic drugs, except tardive dyskinesia.

The label includes warnings about possible drowsiness or impaired ability to do tasks like driving or operating machinery, as well as risks such as dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, blurred vision, confusion, hallucinations, overheating, and decreased sweating. Storage Information

Store at 20° to 25° C (68° to 77°F); excursions permitted to 15° to 30° C (59° to 86°F) [See USP Controlled Room Temperature]. Dispense in well-closed containers as defined in the USP.
