Overview

Amlodipine besylate tablets are a calcium channel blocker taken by mouth. They are used alone or with other medicines to treat high blood pressure, chronic stable angina, vasospastic angina, and certain patients with coronary artery disease.

For adults, the usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 10 mg once daily. Some patients who are small, fragile, older, or have liver problems may start at 2.5 mg once daily. In children 6 to 17 years old, the effective dose is 2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily.

The tablets are available in 2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg strengths. They should not be used in people with known sensitivity to amlodipine.
