Overview

Amlodipine besylate tablets are a calcium channel blocker taken by mouth. They are used alone or with other medicines to treat high blood pressure and certain kinds of chest pain related to coronary artery disease.

For people with high blood pressure, lowering blood pressure can reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events, including stroke and heart attack. The tablets are also used for chronic stable angina, vasospastic angina, and to help reduce the risk of hospitalization for angina or a coronary revascularization procedure in certain patients with documented coronary artery disease.

The usual adult starting dose is 5 mg once daily, with a maximum of 10 mg once daily. Some small, fragile, elderly, or liver-impaired patients may start at 2.5 mg once daily. In children 6 to 17 years old, the effective dose is 2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily.

Storage Store at 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F) [See USP Controlled Room Temperature] and dispense in tight, light-resistant containers (USP). Store amlodipine besylate tablets at 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F).
