Atenolol tablets are a prescription medicine used to treat high blood pressure, help manage angina pectoris due to coronary atherosclerosis, and treat hemodynamically stable patients with definite or suspected acute myocardial infarction to reduce cardiovascular mortality.
Atenolol is a beta1-selective beta-blocker. It works by reducing heart rate and lowering blood pressure, which can reduce the heart’s oxygen needs.
The label says atenolol tablets are available in 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg strengths for oral use. Commonly listed inactive ingredients include sodium starch glycolate, crospovidone, povidone, silicified microcrystalline cellulose, and magnesium stearate.
