Benztropine mesylate tablets are a prescription medicine used as an add-on treatment for all forms of parkinsonism. They are also used to help control extrapyramidal disorders caused by neuroleptic drugs, except tardive dyskinesia.
Each tablet contains benztropine mesylate 0.5 mg, 1 mg, or 2 mg for oral use. The inactive ingredients include corn starch, dicalcium phosphate anhydrous, hydrogenated vegetable oil, lactose anhydrous, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, and talc.
The label says benztropine mesylate has anticholinergic effects and can cause side effects such as dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention, confusion, and drowsiness or weakness in some patients. It also warns that the medicine may affect mental and physical abilities needed for tasks like driving or operating machinery.
Store at 20° to 25° C (68° to 77°F); excursions permitted to 15° to 30° C (59° to 86°F) [See USP Controlled Room Temperature]. Dispense in well-closed containers as defined in the USP.
