Overview

Cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride tablets are a prescription medicine used along with rest and physical therapy for short-term relief of muscle spasm linked to acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions. The label says it helps improve muscle spasm and related pain, tenderness, limited motion, and difficulty with daily activities.

It is not intended for long-term use, and the label says treatment should generally be limited to up to two or three weeks. It has not been found effective for spasticity related to cerebral or spinal cord disease, or in children with cerebral palsy.

The medicine can cause drowsiness, dry mouth, and dizziness. It may also affect mental and physical abilities needed for driving or operating machinery, especially when used with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants.

• Do not use cyclobenzaprine with an MAO inhibitor or within 14 days after stopping one.
• Tell your healthcare professional about all medicines you take, especially SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, tramadol, bupropion, meperidine, verapamil, or other serotonergic drugs.
• This medicine may cause drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, and fatigue.
• Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants unless your prescriber says otherwise, because effects can increase.
• Be careful driving or using machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
• Seek medical care right away if symptoms of serotonin syndrome occur, such as confusion, agitation, hallucinations, fever, sweating, fast heart rate, muscle rigidity, tremor, clonus, or diarrhea.
• Tell your prescriber if you have a history of urinary retention, angle-closure glaucoma, increased eye pressure, liver problems, or heart rhythm/conduction problems.
• Older adults may have a higher risk of side effects; the label says lower starting doses are used in elderly patients.
• Report suspected side effects to Teva or FDA MedWatch as listed in the label.
