Overview

Cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride tablets are a prescription medicine used along with rest and physical therapy to help relieve muscle spasm from acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions. The label says it helps improve muscle spasm, pain, tenderness, limited motion, and limits on daily activities.

It is meant for short-term use only, usually up to 2 or 3 weeks. The label says it has not been found effective for spasticity from cerebral or spinal cord disease, or in children with cerebral palsy.

Common side effects reported in studies include drowsiness and dry mouth. Other possible side effects include fatigue, headache, dizziness, constipation, nausea, and confusion. More serious reactions described on the label include serotonin syndrome, heart rhythm problems, and overdose symptoms such as severe drowsiness, tachycardia, seizures, and low blood pressure.

Helpful Patient Education

Cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride tablets are a prescription muscle relaxant used as an adjunct to rest and physical therapy for relief of muscle spasm associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions. The label states that improvement may include less spasm, pain, tenderness, limited motion, and fewer activity restrictions.

This product is intended for short-term use only, usually up to two or three weeks. Educational information on the label also notes common adverse reactions such as drowsiness and dry mouth, along with important warnings about serotonin syndrome, alcohol and CNS depressant interactions, and the need for caution in older adults and in people with hepatic impairment.
