Overview

Doxazosin tablets are an alpha 1-adrenergic blocker taken by mouth. They are used to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and to treat hypertension, or high blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure can help reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attack.

For BPH, the usual starting dose is 1 mg once daily, taken in the morning or evening. The dose may be increased every 1 to 2 weeks, up to a maximum of 8 mg once daily. For hypertension, the usual starting dose is 1 mg once daily, and the dose may be increased as needed up to 16 mg once daily.

After the first dose and after each dose increase, blood pressure should be monitored for at least 6 hours. If treatment is stopped for several days, it should be restarted using the initial dosing regimen. Doxazosin should not be used in people with hypersensitivity to doxazosin, other quinazolines, or any ingredient in the tablets.
