Overview

Doxazosin tablets are taken by mouth and belong to a group of medicines called alpha 1-adrenergic antagonists. They are used to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and to treat hypertension, or high blood pressure.

For BPH, doxazosin may help improve urinary flow and relieve symptoms such as urinary frequency, nighttime urination, weak stream, hesitancy, and incomplete emptying. For hypertension, lowering blood pressure can reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack.

The label notes that the first dose and dose increases can cause low blood pressure when standing, dizziness, or fainting. Doxazosin can also be used alone or with other antihypertensive medicines.

The tablets are available in 1 mg, 2 mg, 4 mg, and 8 mg strengths. The 4 mg tablet is a white to off-white round tablet debossed with "AC 358" on one side.
