Overview

Enalapril maleate tablets are a prescription medicine used to treat high blood pressure. They are also used to treat symptomatic congestive heart failure, usually with diuretics and digitalis, and to help slow the development of overt heart failure in clinically stable patients with asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction.

Enalapril is an ACE inhibitor. After it is taken by mouth, the body changes it to enalaprilat, the active form that helps lower blood pressure by affecting the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.
