This product has a DailyMed drug label PDF from the National Library of Medicine.
Medication Summary: This section summarizes DailyMed drug label information to make the label easier to understand. It is not a substitute for the official label, pharmacist counseling, prescriber instructions, or medical advice.
Hydrochlorothiazide tablets, USP are a diuretic and antihypertensive medicine. The label says they are used as add-on therapy for swelling (edema) linked to congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, corticosteroid or estrogen therapy, and certain kidney problems. They are also used to help manage high blood pressure, either alone or with other blood pressure medicines.
Hydrochlorothiazide affects how the kidneys handle salt and water. The label says it increases the excretion of sodium and chloride, and this may also cause some loss of potassium and bicarbonate. After taking it by mouth, the diuretic effect usually starts within 2 hours, peaks in about 4 hours, and lasts about 6 to 12 hours.
The medicine should not be used in people with anuria or hypersensitivity to hydrochlorothiazide or other sulfonamide-derived drugs. The label also warns about possible fluid and electrolyte imbalances, kidney or liver problems, low potassium, high uric acid, high blood sugar, and rare eye problems such as acute myopia and angle-closure glaucoma.
Dispense in a well-closed container as defined in the USP, with a child-resistant closure (as required). Store at 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F) [see USP Controlled Room Temperature].
Hydrochlorothiazide tablets, USP are a prescription diuretic and antihypertensive medicine described on the DailyMed label as being used for edema and for the management of hypertension. The label also notes important safety information, including possible effects on electrolytes, blood sugar, uric acid, and kidney function, along with warnings about sun protection and skin cancer screening.
This product information page summarizes label-based uses, precautions, adverse reactions, dosing ranges, and storage instructions for hydrochlorothiazide tablets in plain language. It is intended to support educational pharmacy information and should be read together with the full prescribing information.
