Medication Summary
Medication Summary: This section summarizes DailyMed drug label information to make the label easier to understand. It is not a substitute for the official label, pharmacist counseling, prescriber instructions, or medical advice.
Overview
Lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are a prescription medicine used to treat hypertension, also called high blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure can help reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attack.
This product combines two medicines: lisinopril, an ACE inhibitor, and hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic. The label says the fixed-dose combination is not for initial therapy.
The label includes an important warning about fetal toxicity. If pregnancy is detected, lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets should be discontinued as soon as possible. The medicine should also not be used in people with certain allergy or angioedema histories, anuria, or with some interacting medicines listed on the label.

- Be aware of warning signs of angioedema such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, glottis, or larynx.

- Report symptoms of cough, since persistent nonproductive cough has been reported with ACE inhibitors.
- This medicine may affect kidney function and potassium levels; the label notes that monitoring may be needed in some patients.
- Tell a healthcare professional about all other medicines, especially neprilysin inhibitors, aliskiren in diabetes, potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, and lithium.
