Medication Summary

Medication Summary: This section summarizes DailyMed drug label information to make the label easier to understand. It is not a substitute for the official label, pharmacist counseling, prescriber instructions, or medical advice.

Overview

This product contains aspirin 81 mg, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for temporary relief of minor aches and pains. Because it is delayed release, it will not provide fast relief for headaches or other symptoms that need immediate relief.

The label warns that children and teenagers who have or are recovering from chicken pox or flu-like symptoms should not use this product because of the risk of Reye’s syndrome. Aspirin may also cause a severe allergic reaction and can cause severe stomach bleeding in some people.

The label says to use caution and ask a doctor or pharmacist about use if you have certain medical conditions or take certain medicines. It also says to stop use and get medical help right away for allergic reactions, signs of stomach bleeding, or ringing in the ears or hearing loss.

Key Counseling Points

  • This product is aspirin 81 mg and is labeled as a pain reliever.
  • It is delayed release, so it is not meant for fast relief of headaches or other symptoms needing immediate relief.
  • Take with a full glass of water with each dose.
  • Adults and children 12 years and over: take 4 to 8 tablets every 4 hours, unless directed by a doctor.
  • Do not exceed 48 tablets in 24 hours unless directed by a doctor.
  • Children under 12 years should ask a doctor.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to aspirin or any other pain reliever/fever reducer, or if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this product or any ingredient in it.
  • Children and teenagers with chicken pox or flu-like symptoms should not use this product because of Reyeu2019s syndrome risk.
  • Stop use and seek medical help right away for allergic reactions, stomach bleeding signs, ringing in the ears, or hearing loss.
  • Ask a health professional before use if pregnant or breast-feeding, and do not use during the last 3 months of pregnancy unless a doctor specifically directs it.

Helpful Patient Education

Low Dose Aspirin 81 mg delayed release tablets contain aspirin, an NSAID labeled for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains. The delayed-release design means it is not intended for fast relief of headaches or other symptoms that need immediate relief.

DailyMed label information also includes important safety warnings about allergic reactions, stomach bleeding, Reye’s syndrome in children and teenagers with chicken pox or flu-like symptoms, and use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Always follow the directions and warnings on the package.
