Medication Summary: This section summarizes DailyMed drug label information to make the label easier to understand. It is not a substitute for the official label, pharmacist counseling, prescriber instructions, or medical advice.
Atenolol tablets are a beta1-selective beta-blocker available by prescription. The label says the 25 mg tablet is one of several oral strengths, and it contains inactive ingredients such as colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, and sodium starch glycolate.
This medicine is indicated for treatment of high blood pressure, long-term management of angina pectoris due to coronary atherosclerosis, and management of hemodynamically stable patients with definite or suspected acute myocardial infarction to reduce cardiovascular mortality.
The label warns that atenolol should not be stopped suddenly, especially in patients with coronary artery disease, because abrupt discontinuation has been associated with worsening angina and other serious heart problems. It also notes important cautions for heart failure, bronchospastic disease, diabetes or fasting states, pregnancy, breastfeeding, kidney problems, and use with certain other medicines.

Atenolol tablets are a prescription beta-blocker used for hypertension, angina pectoris due to coronary atherosclerosis, and for reducing cardiovascular mortality in hemodynamically stable patients with definite or suspected acute myocardial infarction. The label describes atenolol as a beta1-selective (cardioselective) adrenoreceptor blocking agent.
This product contains atenolol as the active ingredient and is available in oral tablet strengths including 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg. Educational labeling information highlights important safety considerations, including the need to avoid abrupt discontinuation and to use caution in patients with heart failure, bronchospastic disease, kidney impairment, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
