Overview

Baclofen tablets are a prescription muscle relaxant and antispastic medicine available as 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg oral tablets. The label says it is used to help relieve signs and symptoms of spasticity caused by multiple sclerosis, especially flexor spasms, pain, clonus, and muscle rigidity.

The label also says baclofen may be of some value in people with spinal cord injuries and other spinal cord diseases. It is not indicated for skeletal muscle spasm from rheumatic disorders, and its effectiveness has not been established for stroke, cerebral palsy, or Parkinson’s disease.

Baclofen can cause drowsiness and other central nervous system effects. The label warns against stopping the medicine suddenly, because hallucinations and seizures have occurred with abrupt withdrawal.
