Benztropine mesylate tablets are an oral prescription medicine available in 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2 mg strengths. The label says it is used as an adjunct in the therapy of all forms of parkinsonism.
It is also used to help control extrapyramidal disorders caused by neuroleptic drugs such as phenothiazines, except tardive dyskinesia. The tablets contain benztropine mesylate and inactive ingredients including corn starch, dicalcium phosphate anhydrous, hydrogenated vegetable oil, lactose anhydrous, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, and talc.
The label warns that this medicine can cause anticholinergic side effects and may impair mental and physical abilities needed for driving or operating machinery. It should be used with caution in certain patients, including young children, and it is not recommended for tardive dyskinesia.
Store at 20° to 25° C (68° to 77°F); excursions permitted to 15° to 30° C (59° to 86°F) [See USP Controlled Room Temperature]. Dispense in well-closed containers as defined in the USP.
