Overview
Enalapril maleate tablets are a prescription medicine used to treat high blood pressure. They are also used for symptomatic congestive heart failure, usually with other medicines, and for certain patients with asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction.
Enalapril is an ACE inhibitor. It works by affecting the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, which helps lower blood pressure and can help the heart work more efficiently in some patients.
The label includes a boxed warning for fetal toxicity. If pregnancy is detected, enalapril maleate tablets should be discontinued as soon as possible.
The tablets contain enalapril maleate and may include inactive ingredients such as corn starch, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, pregelatinized starch, and sodium bicarbonate. The 10 mg tablets also contain red ferric oxide.
