Warnings And Precautions
- Angioedema: Discontinue lisinopril, provide appropriate therapy and monitor until resolved (5.2)
- Renal impairment: Monitor renal function periodically (5.3)
- Hypotension: Patients with other heart or renal diseases have increased risk, monitor blood pressure after initiation (5.4)
- Hyperkalemia: Monitor serum potassium periodically (5.5)
- Cholestatic jaundice and hepatic failure: Monitor for jaundice or signs of liver failure (5.6)

Overview
Lisinopril tablets are an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor taken by mouth. The label says they are used to treat high blood pressure in adults and children 6 years of age and older, to help with systolic heart failure, and to reduce the risk of death after a heart attack in hemodynamically stable patients.
The label includes a boxed warning for fetal toxicity. Lisinopril can cause harm to an unborn baby, and it should be stopped as soon as pregnancy is detected.
The tablets are available in several strengths, including 30 mg, which is a red, capsule-shaped tablet marked with H;148. The label also lists important safety concerns such as angioedema, low blood pressure, kidney problems, high potassium, and possible liver problems.

Key Counseling Points
- Take lisinopril exactly as prescribed.
- This medicine is used for high blood pressure, heart failure, or after a heart attack, depending on the reason it was prescribed.
- Lisinopril can cause fetal harm; the label says to stop it as soon as pregnancy is detected.
- Get urgent help for swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, or trouble breathing, which may be signs of angioedema.
- Lisinopril may cause low blood pressure, especially when starting treatment or if you are also taking a diuretic.
- The label recommends periodic monitoring of kidney function and serum potassium during treatment.
- Tell your healthcare professional about all medicines you take, especially diuretics, NSAIDs, lithium, potassium supplements, salt substitutes, or diabetes medicines.
- Do not use lisinopril with sacubitril, and do not take it within 36 hours of switching to or from sacubitril/valsartan.
- Report signs of jaundice or liver problems, such as yellowing of the skin or eyes.
- If you have diabetes, the label says not to co-administer aliskiren with lisinopril.
