Overview
Losartan potassium tablets are an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) taken by mouth. They are used to treat high blood pressure in adults and children 6 years of age and older.
The label also says losartan potassium tablets are used to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy, and to treat diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes who have a history of hypertension, elevated serum creatinine, and proteinuria.
Losartan potassium can cause serious harm to an unborn baby. If pregnancy is detected, the medicine should be discontinued as soon as possible.
The tablets come in 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg strengths. Common side effects reported in trials include dizziness, upper respiratory infection, nasal congestion, and back pain.
