Medication Summary

Overview
Low Dose Aspirin 81 mg tablets contain aspirin, an NSAID, and are intended for temporary relief of minor aches and pains or as recommended by a doctor. Because this product has delayed action, it will not provide fast relief of headaches or other symptoms that need immediate relief.
The label warns that children and teenagers with or recovering from chicken pox or flu-like symptoms should not use this product because of the risk of Reye’s syndrome. Aspirin may also cause a severe allergic reaction and can cause severe stomach bleeding in some people.
Directions on the label say to drink a full glass of water with each dose. Adults and children 12 years and over should take 4 to 8 tablets every 4 hours, not to exceed 48 tablets in 24 hours unless directed by a doctor. Children under 12 years should ask a doctor.
