Overview

Nystatin and Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment, USP is a prescription medicine for external use only. It contains nystatin, an antifungal agent, and triamcinolone acetonide, a topical corticosteroid.

According to the label, it is indicated for the treatment of cutaneous candidiasis. In clinical studies, the combination provided greater benefit than nystatin alone during the first few days of treatment.

The label says to avoid contact with the eyes and not to use the ointment for any disorder other than the one it was prescribed for. The treated area should not be bandaged, wrapped, or otherwise covered in a way that creates occlusion.

• Parents should avoid using tight diapers or plastic pants on a child being treated in the diaper area, because these can act as occlusive dressings.
• Report signs of local adverse reactions, such as irritation or other skin changes.
• If symptoms persist after 25 days of therapy, the label says the preparation should be discontinued.
• Preventive measures to avoid reinfection are advised by the label.
