Medication Summary: This section summarizes DailyMed drug label information to make the label easier to understand. It is not a substitute for the official label, pharmacist counseling, prescriber instructions, or medical advice.
Oxybutynin chloride tablets are an oral antispasmodic and anticholinergic medicine. They are indicated for relief of symptoms of bladder instability associated with voiding in patients with uninhibited neurogenic or reflex neurogenic bladder, including urgency, frequency, urinary leakage, urge incontinence, and dysuria.
The tablets work by relaxing bladder smooth muscle and reducing involuntary bladder contractions. This can increase bladder capacity, delay the urge to void, and decrease urgency and episodes of incontinence.
The label warns that oxybutynin can cause side effects such as dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, and blurred vision. It may also cause serious reactions including angioedema, confusion, hallucinations, urinary retention, and decreased gastrointestinal motility.
Dispense in tight, light-resistant container as defined in the USP. Store at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F); excursions permitted within 15° C to 30° C (59° F to 86° F) [see USP Controlled Room Temperature].
