Important safety information on the label includes the risk of serotonin syndrome, bleeding, discontinuation symptoms if stopped suddenly, seizures, angle-closure glaucoma, hyponatremia, and sexual dysfunction. The label also says paroxetine can affect pregnancy and may reduce the efficacy of tamoxifen.

Take paroxetine as directed on the prescription label. The dosage depends on the condition being treated, and the tablet should be used carefully with other medicines because of several important drug interactions.

  • Watch for symptoms of serotonin syndrome such as agitation, hallucinations, fever, sweating, fast heartbeat, shaking, or diarrhea.

  • Report unusual bleeding or bruising, especially if taking aspirin, NSAIDs, warfarin, or other blood thinners.
  • Tell the healthcare provider about any history of bipolar disorder, mania, hypomania, or seizures.
  • Get medical help for new or worsening suicidal thoughts or behavior, especially early in treatment or when the dose changes.
